Last night’s results from West Clare Festival in Doonbeg were good ones for Leinster with Masquerade Drama Group’s win in the Confined Section with "The Bear” by Brian Friel (adapted from Chekhov) catapulting the Arklow-based group through to the finals. In the Open Section, the victory for the Celbridge-based Insight Theatre with Samuel Beckett’s "Play” has them on the verge of qualification.  In summary then, with three Festivals to go, in the Open Section Ballyduff, Lurig and Rasper are through and Insight are on the doorstep. In the Confined Section, Breffni, Gunpowder and Masquerade are through with Coachford all but certain. The final festivals then - City of Derry, Prosperous and Tubbercurry - which all finish on next Saturday night should confirm Insight and Coachford and will determine the three remaining qualification spots - one in the Confined Section and two in the Open.
